Floor Extenion in a 2-storey house in Argos, Peloponnese

A floor extension is one of the most suitable ways to extend the area of an existing building. Furthermore, when dealing with a home, as in this case, we need to fully meet the needs of its occupants. In this case, our specialised staff built both a floor addition and a horizontal extension of the maisonette.

We chose the composite building method which is ideal for floor extensions because of the low weight of the structural elements it utilises. Because the original building was relatively old we also chose to reinforce its existing load bearing structure. A shaft that will amongst others harbour a lift, made of reinforced concrete,(I deleted extra sentence) was encompassed in the horizontal extension of the maisonette.

Masonry was built of bulk brick with dimensions of 18cm x 18cm x 32cm. The metal columns were insulated to avoid development of thermal bridges. We renovated the exteriors with stone cladding, as defined by the architectural design – as well as with organic roughcast, which is resistant to sudden changes of temperature, in order to avoid unwanted cracking.
