Our floor installation projects stand out for their high aesthetics, top quality and lasting durability.

Flooring adds the final decorative touch to a newly-built space. However, beyond its aesthetic value, flooring should serve the homeowners’ needs in the best way. We can tell a “good floor” mainly by its durability over time through its daily use.

Flooring installations by Smart Building

Choosing the right flooring for a house or commercial building can be quite a difficult decision. The final choice should be based on a set of factors, most importantly the space conditions, the daily needs of those who use it and, of course, one’s aesthetic preferences. The latter is especially important for homes, where the floor should actually express you, the homeowner, because the entire “personality” of the space is based on it.

After conducting a thorough design study of the space and understanding our clients’ particular needs and preferences, we implement the most suitable solution for each particular project. All our floors stand out for their excellent quality and enormous durability. In fact, thanks to our experience and expertise, we are able to undertake the installation of any type of floor, such as tile, marble, wood, etc.

Tile floor installation

The most common flooring style is laying tiles. Tiles are a cheaper solution compared to wooden floors, they are available in a much wider variety of colors, they are easy to clean and provide a good deal of hardness and durability. Tile material can vary, but the most popular options are ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles, mosaic or stone. Tile floors can have various layouts:

  • Square/Grid layout
  • Diamond layout
  • Running bond layout
  • More complex layouts

Ceramic tile floor installation

Our ceramic tile installation works begin with a comprehensive design and planning. The first stage includes the creation of a vapor barrier. To achieve this, we clean the surface to be insulated, smooth the irregularities in the concrete, and finally apply asphalt emulsion in two layers.

The second stage of laying ceramic tiles is the installation of the thermal insulation material, which, depending on your needs, can be done by spraying of polyurethane or installation of insulation plates made of polyurethane or expanded polystyrene or extruded polystyrene.

The installation of the tiles is completed by laying notched cellular mortar and waterproof underlayment membrane for extra safety.

Marble Floor Installation

Marble floors are mainly composed of calcite (CaCO3) – its exact composition varies. It has high compressive strength (150 Mpa). Marble has a significant coefficient of thermal expansion, which makes it an excellent choice for flooring. The installation process begins with the appropriate preliminary work, including the vapor barrier creation. In addition, our staff also takes care of the cleaning and smoothing of possible irregularities on the surface, in order to place the bituminous emulsion in two layers.

We then lay the thermal insulation material – polyurethane, expanded polystyrene or extruded polystyrene. The installation of marble floor tiles is completed with the underlayment of waterproof membranes.

Wood flooring installation

Wooden floor installation is an excellent solution, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. A hardwood floor can significantly upgrade the aesthetics and offer extra warmth to the space, compared to other options. It’s important to take into consideration that the dimensions of wood floorboards change significantly depending on the percentage of moisture.

The installation of wooden flooring can be done with two basic methods, namely nailed (in the form of parquets or in the form of long strips) or glued (floating or glue down). More detailed information about each method of hardwood flooring can be found below.

Hardwood floor installation - nailed

The installation of wooden floors using the nailing method is done on wooden slats which are supported on the slab (concrete) with special expanding-soundproof plugs. Parquets or strips are nailed according to the predetermined pattern. In cases where the dimensions of the parquets or the particularities of the project require a mezzanine or raised floor part, we create it with white wood or marine plywood boards.

Around the edges of the floor, along the length of the walls, we create the expansion and ventilation joint and cover it with skirting boards. We then sand the floor with a series of different sandpapers and apply the final varnish.

Hardwood floor installation - glued

The installation of a glue down wooden floor is done on a flat surface, free of oil stains or other added building materials. By applying a special two-component adhesive, installation can be done over existing surfaces such as cement mortar, old marble, granite or mosaic, ceramic tiles or even old wooden floors. The wooden flooring procedure is completed with the essential expansion joint alongside the walls, sanding and lastly varnishing.

Hardwood flooring can be installed in the following methods:

  • Mosaic Parquet / Lam Parquet (wood floor plates or slits).
  • Plank flooring, Tongue and Groove type (T&G 4 sides).

Advantages of glue down flooring and when to choose it

Glue Down hardwood floors offer several advantages – high aesthetic value above all. Additional benefits of glue down hardwood floors include:

  • Short completion times
  • Minimum disturbance, when installed in occupied spaces
  • Low costs
  • DIY options

In addition, because glue down floors fully cover and are in contact with the existing substrate, it’s possible to use thinner wood plies.

The choice of glue down floors is indicated in the following cases:

  • Floor heating
  • Low height flooring
  • Different pre-existing flooring
  • Customer’s choice
